In 2018, the world ended. 

In just a few days time, massive amounts of nuclear bombs were launched by all atomic powers on the planet. Mainly at the others, sometimes at themselves…

Later generations called it the Worldfire.

Earth shook from the impact, volcanic regions that had lain dormant erupted, adding their ash and smoke to the nuclear dust already in the atmosphere. Contact with people in other nations became impossible due to electromagnetic storms. Clouds of debris choked out the sun, temperatures plummeted. By the end of the first week, it was every man for himself.

The next few decades brought life itself to the brink. Ash and dust freezing the world with years of night. When day finally returned, it nearly scorched the world. But somehow life survived; what’s left is resilient, adaptive, and terribly smart.

Humanity has gathered some shreds of civilization; farms and villages dot the wilderness. While people remain hopeful, the world has become a harsh place. Danger lurks around every corner and death is but a knock away.

In what remains of West Europe – France, Benelux, Germany and Switzerland a new civilisation arises. Two main types of society developed: Cités and Cores. Smaller communities exist, but they are often associated with one or the other. Apart from cities and towns, certain groups formed themselves into Guilds.

It is a world where cooperation is needed in order to survive and maintain some level of humanity. Collaboration between the different groups within the Cités, the Cores and the Guilds is a necessity, but never straightforward.
